Jewelry and the City

While our social media feeds were filled with COUTURE designers attending trunk shows and special events across the globe this summer, and, dare I say, taking vacations, back here in New York City, there was plenty of jewelry activity to keep us all immersed in sparkle! After a successful JA New York Show at the beginning of July, the New York Antique Jewelry and Watch Show took place at the Metropolitan Pavilion. While this show is open to the public, it’s also well attended by people in our trade. From designers looking for inspiration, to retailers on the hunt for special pieces for their very selective clients, to designers and brands looking for their own jewelry in the vendors’ cases (I’m talking about you Tom Heyman!), it was fun running into industry friends roaming the aisles throughout the three-day event.

One of the highlights of the New York Antique Jewelry and Watch Show were the two tours conducted by jewelry historian, journalist and author, Beth Bernstein. The “Lunch & Learn” tour filled up so quickly with people wanting to attend, we had to add a second, “Sip & Learn” tour in the afternoon, which still left nearly 100 people on the wait list! The attendees were all incredibly engaged throughout the tours, asking questions in order to build their foundation of knowledge of antique and estate jewelry. Armed with fresh information, we saw many of the tour attendees shopping the show floor, newly confident in their purchasing decisions.

The following week, we were overwhelmed by the gemstones and jewels on display during the American Gem Trade Association’s (AGTA) annual Spectrum Awards press event! All of the entries (and winners!) of this colored gemstone and pearl design competition were on display in a gorgeous, Manhattan loft space. COUTURE designers are among the most daring in terms of incorporating unique gemstones and bold color combinations into their collections, so we’re looking forward to seeing some of the incredible gems that were on display at AGTA in future COUTURE collections! We’re also thrilled to be partnering with AGTA this June in Las Vegas; our designers will have the opportunity to shop AGTA GemFair Las Vegas at the Las Vegas Convention Center, and our retailers can check out the Las Vegas Antique Jewelry and Watch Show and our new show launch, PREMIER!

Lastly, it was so great seeing so many of you at the NY NOW show just this past week. Any opportunity we have to see our designers’ incredible collections is amazing, and crossing paths with people in our community, especially outside of COUTURE, always feels like a family reunion!
