At Jane Taylor, fine jewelry is a family affair! Jane concentrates on the design and manufacturing, while her daughter Cleo spearheads marketing, public relations and customer service. They have effectively translated their strong mother-daughter bond into a dynamic working relationship, often relying on mental telepathy to stay in constant communication, despite living in different states. We caught up with this mother/daughter duo for our Viva series, and discovered that Jane has zero guilty pleasures, and some pretty straightforward Vegas survival tips!
COUTURE: How many years have you exhibited with COUTURE?
Jane Taylor: Our first Couture was in 2003!
COUTURE: What’s your COUTURE uniform?
JT: Comfortable, light, airy
Cleo Zancope Gnatek: An attempt at stylish, but comfortable. And outfits that get baggier as the week goes on to hide the bloating 😛
COUTURE: What’s your guilty pleasure while in Sin City?
JT: I don’t have one!
CZG: Well I’m weirdly proud to say that I’ve never gambled in my 11 years attending trade shows with JT, not even a penny! My guilty pleasure is probably all the yummy food.
COUTURE: Do you have any tips for staying sane?
JT: Water, lots of water!
CZG: To trust my gut and listen to what my body/mind needs as much as possible… if I’m feeling like I need room service and sleep, then I go for it. If I’m feeling like I need a cocktail and friends, then I do that. But I do generally have to force myself to go to bed earlier than I would like!
COUTURE: Vegas theme song?
JT: “Low Rider” by War, it’s always in my head in Vegas for some reason
CZG: I’ve got a Spotify playlist that I usually play for us while we’re getting ready called “Pump It Up.” I like silly pop music when I need to keep my energy levels high.
COUTURE: Vegas Survival Tips and Tricks?!
JT: Water, baths & band-aids
CZG: Everything my mom said because obvi mom knows best! Soaking our feet at night has been a JT magic trick that’s been amazingly helpful, and wearing shoes that are already broken in and you know you can wear for what feels like forever without dying.
COUTURE: Whose collection, other than your own, are you most excited to see this year?
JT: Um I never get to see anyone else’s booth. But I’m finally making it to the Antique show which is a thrill since that’s my all time favorite stuff!
CZG: That’s hard to answer because there are so many designers whose collections I admire, but I’ve been getting sneak peeks of what the Lent boys and Sorellina sisters are up to and I can’t wait to see the whole shebang!
COUTURE: What are you most excited to showcase this year?
CZG: All of our hoops! We’ve got so many different options and sizes!
