Couture Musings

A Night to Remember!

Jewelers of America held its 14th annual Gem Awards Ceremony on January 8th at Cipriani 42nd in New York City. It was truly a remarkable evening filled with introductions, inspiration, and of course, incredible jewelry and timepieces!

The Gem Awards honors nominees in a variety of categories, and we were thrilled to learn that all three designers nominated in the design category this year—Sevan Bicakci, Caroline Scheufele and Temple St. Clair—are members of the COUTURE community. Ultimately, Temple took home this highly coveted award, noting from the stage her admiration for her fellow nominees. Kyle Anderson, Rachel Garrahan, and Rob Bates were nominated in the category of media excellence, and Rob, a seasoned veteran in fine jewelry journalism, was awarded the honor. Nominees for the newly created Watch Design category included brands Cartier, Piaget, and Roger Dubois and we were pleased to witness Cartier take home the newest Gem award.

The evening was brought to a close with a toast to our friend, Joe Thompson, the recipient of the Gem Award for Lifetime Achievement. With over four decades of jewelry and timepiece reporting, and nine editorial excellence awards under his belt, Joe’s recognition was well deserved.

Thank you for joining us in celebrating the COUTURE community’s achievements; we appreciate your endless support, and admire your sincere passion for the industry.
