Temple St. Clair takes Flight

As the Latin phrase “omne trium perfectum” suggests, the best things come in threes. That’s certainly the case with designer Temple St. Clair and her Haute Couture jewelry trilogy, Golden Menagerie. The first chapter in the trilogy, Mythical Creatures, debuted in the Fall of 2014 with 9 one-of-a-kind jeweled creatures depicted in a fairytale manner. This Fall marks the debut of Wings of Desire, the designer’s continuing exploration of our relationships with animals.

Wings has been divided into three distinct categories–Falconi, Super Heroes and Fantasy Birds. Falconi depicts the life cycle of birds of prey, while also giving a nod to the celebrated, ancient art of falconry. Super Heroes consists of real, mythological and mythologized creatures while Fantasy Birds is a celebration of the grace, plumage and lightness of birds.

In keeping with the artist’s meticulous attention to detail, each box that accompanies these one-of-a-kind creations has been carefully crafted to tell a consistent story. The boxes are works of art in and of themselves, and are a collaboration between Temple and Textile Artist, Thessy Schoenholzer-Nichols.

Wings of Desire was on exhibition at the Park Avenue Armory November 12-16, 2015 at The Salon Art + Design, and will be on exhibition again at The Museum of Decorative Arts at the Louvre in July of 2016.
