CEO of Yoko London, Michael Hakimian, is so knowledgeable about pearls as to be intimidating! After spending a little time speaking with him however, one quickly discovers that his knowledge is born of passion, and he is never more delighted than when he’s sharing that passion with others. Creators of some of the most exquisite pearl jewelry I’ve ever seen, Yoko London is a relatively new–and welcome–addition to the COUTURE family. We caught up with Michael to get a fresh perspective on how to Viva Las Vegas:
COUTURE: How many years have you been exhibiting at COUTURE?
Michael Hakimian: Last year was our first time at Couture, and we won first place in the pearl jewelery category of the Couture Design Awards, which we were delighted about.
COUTURE: COUTURE turns 20 this year….what do you think COUTURE’s birthday theme song should be?
MH: Happy Birthday by Stevie Wonder
COUTURE: If COUTURE were an animal, what would it be and why?
MH: A lion – it sinks its claws into you and never lets go.
COUTURE: What do you consider the highlight of COUTURE each year?
MH: The COUTURE Design Awards – it is a wonderful occasion to celebrate the creativity of the jewellery on display at the show.
COUTURE: What single piece of jewelry are you most excited to showcase this year?
MH: A magnificent new necklace from our ‘Masterpiece Collection’ which we have entered under the pearl category in the COUTURE Design Awards. I will let the necklace do the talking when you see it at the show.
COUTURE: Whose jewelry, other than your own, are you most looking forward to seeing?
MH: Sutra – the magnificent colours and originality seen in their collections is always amazing to see.
COUTURE: Coffee or Tea?
MH: I am an Englishman – tea.
COUTURE: What’s your “secret weapon” for tackling Las Vegas?
MH: Red Bull.
COUTURE: What’s your earliest/most prominent memory of COUTURE?
MH: Admiring the beautiful swimming pool from the exhibition hall…
