It seems to happen earlier every year–you’re at the pharmacy or the grocery store and suddenly, there it is! Christmas music! For Couture retailers however, holiday time often means in-store events, personal appearances and a good time to solidify relationships with their clients. Our next blog series will focus on 4 distinct retailers and will uncover their approach to the holiday madness. We also asked for a sneak peak into their own personal holiday traditions!
We first caught up with Melissa Geiser at Stanley Korshak in Dallas, Texas. I had the opportunity to visit Melissa in the store years ago, and I walked away thinking the same thing I had when I once visited Harrods in London, “Wow! I wish I’d gotten more dressed up!” The store is so elegant and beautifully laid out, everyone who works there is so lovely and pleasant, and then there’s the jewelry! Lots and lots of gorgeous jewelry!
Couture: Do you have a lot of trunk shows and personal appearances in the upcoming holiday season?
Melissa Geiser: I actually have more this season than we’ve had in the past. We usually start in October but this year we start on Thursday [September 4] and go through the end of December.
Couture: How do you typically promote your trunk shows and PA’s?
MG: We promote thru email blasts, Instagram, Facebook, print media and billboards. But really the best way is by phone calls because the relationships that the sales associates have with their clients is what determines the success of a show.
Couture: What’s new and exciting in terms of product for the holiday season?
MG: We have focused on a modern category with the success of collections like Monique Pean and Ted Muehling. We have added Nikos Koulis, Jacqueline Cullen and Federica Rettore. All are different price points and feelings but all are modern.
We are also so excited about launching Yossi Harari‘s new Lace collection!! It is so amazing that I cannot wait for our sales associates and clients to see it.
Couture: What’s on YOUR holiday wish list?
MG: I am wrapping up a pool and a master bedroom to go under my tree!!
Couture: What are you personally giving this season (give one example of a gift)?
MG: Jewelry of course! I bought my first gift this summer for my 14 year old girl. She has been looking at a Dana Kellin pendant that is now tucked away in my safe.
Couture: Do you have any holiday traditions, either personal or family traditions?
MG: I love decorating my house and tree, all the favorite ornaments come out of hiding for another year. On Christmas morning everyone gathers in my room and I love the anticipation on the kids’ faces as they wait for Christmas to start! Really they are waiting for my husband to turn on lights and get camera ready.
Couture: What puts you in the holiday spirit?
MG: I start getting in the mood right now because we are planning 4th quarter! I love the Holidays because all of my favorite designers and clients are in the store and there is excitement in the air!
