Viva Las Vegas with Marco Bicego and Moise Cohen

Thanks to Elana Cutler, I recently got a chance to take a vicarious trip through the Marco Bicego factory in Italy. When hearing about her trip, I was most impressed by how very hands on and involved Marco Bicego is in the day-to-day operation of his brand. It seems like, along with the President of the company, my buddy Moise Cohen, Marco is also extremely involved in the day-to-day Couture experience, including hanging on to a secret stash of chocolate and knowing just how to unwind at the end of a successful show day. We might have even scored an invite to a party in their new ballroom! We caught up with both Marco and Moise to find out how they plan on Viva-ing Las Vegas!

How many years have you been exhibiting at Couture?

MB: This is our 11th year at Couture. I love Couture because it gives me the opportunity to meet so many amazing people from around the world. Whether I’m catching up with a fellow designer or introducing my collection to a buyer or editor for the first time, I love having the opportunity to connect personally with people through my jewelry.

What’s your packing strategy?

MB: For Couture, I stick to a pretty easy uniform so I don’t need to bring too many things. I live in jeans and Armani blazers but have a special affinity for fancy shoes! I’ll probably bring my favorite blue Church leather shoes to sport at the show this year.

What’s the oddest thing you bring with you?

MB: Don’t tell U.S. Customs, but it’s probably my homemade salami that I like to snack on while traveling!

Do you have any tips for staying sane during the show?

MB: Relax and enjoy it! I only get to show at Couture once a year and I try to remember to live in the moment and enjoy every minute. Every year, Moise and I have a tradition of going to the Roulette tables and play our children’s birthdates- some years he wins, some years I win- I plan to win this year!

Favorite restaurant in Vegas?

MB: I’ve been hearing so much about Rose.Rabbit.Lie at the Cosmopolitan. I’m excited to give that a try while I’m in town.

Average number of hours you sleep each night during Couture?

MB: Five or less. Once we wrap at the show for the day I usually have lots of energy and enjoy a dinner and drinks with our team or with a retail partner. Then it’s up early the next morning to do it all again.

What are you most looking forward to this year?

MB: Every year I look forward to seeing long-time friends, buyers, and editors as well as building new relationships. This year, I’m particularly excited to see everyone at our cocktail party scheduled for Friday, May 30 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in our ballroom, LaFleur 2. Stop by!

Signature cocktail?

MB: My favorite drink is a nice glass of Franciacorta. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for that on the Vegas menus- nothing like a glass of sparkling wine after a long day at the show.

Signature candy?

MB: I love dark chocolate. We keep a secret stash in the booth during Couture. If you’re lucky, maybe we’ll share!

Theme song?

MB: “Happy” by Pharrell Williams for obvious reasons!

Favorite quote?

MB: For my designs, I follow the quote “Timeless luxury” meaning simple and wearable – a concept which I would like to see all women embrace. It blends old world Italian hand craftsmanship with tradition, passion and imagination.

How many years have you been exhibiting/attending Couture?

MC: This is Marco Bicego’s 11th year at Couture. I love the energy and excitement that surrounds it. More importantly, I love to connect with all the amazing people in the industry.

What’s your packing strategy?

MC: My wardrobe formula is pretty simple- An elegant Navy Suit and a classic soft fabric dress shirt.

What’s the oddest thing you bring with you?

MC: My funky Paul Smith socks.

Do you have any tips for staying sane during the show?

MC: I have an incredible team and they make it easy for me and Marco to stay sane. I am grateful for that.

Favorite restaurant in Vegas?

MC: I always try and make it to SW for a meal. Marco I love to dig into a big steak and a glass of red wine after a long, rewarding day.

Average number of hours you sleep each night during Couture?

MC: Not many. Between the show and catching up with friends and colleagues in the evening, there’s little time for sleep. I’ll sleep when I get home! Oh no I won’t…I have two kids!

What are you most looking forward to this year?

MC: I’m thrilled with our new home at Couture this year- our own ballroom, LaFleur2. This space will allow us new opportunities for more display and a seamless presentation that I’m really excited about. In addition, we are hosting a cocktail party on Friday, May 30 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in our space- It’s a great opportunity to connect with everyone in this new environment.

Signature cocktail?

MC: Campari and Soda. Something about that drink is timeless and Italian- just like our brand.

Signature candy?

MC: Marco keeps a small stash of chocolate hidden; maybe this year he will share with me!

Theme song?
MC: “City by the Bay” by Journey; it’s a San Francisco classic- it reminds me of home.

 Favorite quote?

MC: “A Seamless Customer Service experience should drive all of our decisions”- Me
