January Jewelry Industry Madness!

The first weekend in January always plays host to several jewelry industry events here in New York City. This is always a fabulous time for many reasons…firstly, our industry definitely doesn’t shy away from playing dress up and secondly, by January, it’s been several months since we’ve all seen each other so we’re always excited to reunite!

Friday night the Jewelry Information Center held their annual Gem Awards at Cipriani on 42nd Street. First order of the night was the announcement of the winner in the editorial category. Up for this distinguished honor were Beth Bernstein, author and former editor of InStore Magazine, Ben Clymer of Hodinkee, and Victoria Gomelsky, editor-in-chief of JCK Magazine and frequent contributor to International Herald Tribune. In accepting her award, Gomelsky thanked her JCK Family and gave a big shout out to her “better half,” her twin sister Julia. Up for an award in the design category were Kara Ross, Irene Neuwirth and Monica Rich Kosann (all three Couture designers!). While Kara took home the award, the interaction among the three women at the event proved this was the most friendly of competitions! Next Tiffany & Co., Love Gold and Tacori were up for the Corporate Award. While all companies have given back to the industry in major ways, ultimately, Tiffany & Co. took home the award. As the big highlight of the evening, the imitable Marie Helene Morrow of Reinhold Jewelers was honored with a well-deserved lifetime achievement award. After being introduced by David Yurman, Marie Helene gave a heartfelt speech dedicated to the designers she works with, “I love you all so much. You make life more beautiful, you make life more fun. You can’t buy talent…That’s what life is all about, being around people you love and can trust and that’s what all of you are to me.” She went on to thank her husband David who is the love of her life!

Saturday marked the annual 24 Karat Club of New York’s annual banquet at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. The evening always kicks off with the various “suite parties” sponsored by a variety of companies, followed by a dinner and performance, then back to the suite parties. For those who have the endurance to make it, the suite parties are followed by a dance party in one of the hotel’s ballrooms. The Couture team was there for the duration and we were all excited to see old friends and even make a few new ones! (Please send us any images you have that you want us to post, the more the merrier!)!
