Golden Globes–Tweets from the Red Carpet

Last night we were excited to watch the kick-off award show of the season, the Golden Globes. While we know the Oscars are Hollywood’s crowning achievement, let’s face it, our primary focus is the fashion, and the more relaxed atmosphere of the Golden Globes allows our favorite stars to get a little more creative with their attire. We joined our fellow “tweeps” as we tuned in to E!’s coverage of the red carpet. Amidst the usual admonishments to Ryan Seacrest to ask the stars about the jewelry, it seemed all of us were more excited about this awards show than we have been in the past several years, and several exciting jewelry trends seemed to emerge.

It’s been some time since we’ve seen yellow gold on the red carpet but it was in full affect last night! One of the stand out looks of the evening was Lupita Nyong’o in a stunning red Ralph Lauren caped dress. She counteracted the drama of her gown by pairing it with understated earrings and rings by Fred Leighton, including another trend of the evening, a statement pinky ring.

Speaking of rock n’ roll…we were thrilled to see Tatiana Maslany and Emma Watson get creative with their jewelry. Tatiana was wearing an ear cuff alongside her dangly earrings and what appeared to be a totally on-trend double knuckle ring. Of course, I can’t tell you who the designer of her jewelry is because nobody asked her! (if you know, please weigh in in the comments section!). Emma Watson paired her totally risque apron and pants with a single pearl earring by Mastoloni and the Tweetosphere was going nuts over this fabulous asymmetrical look!

Monica Potter was one of the first to arrive on the red carpet and she restored faith in the evening into all of our tweeting hearts with her absolutely perfect earrings and rings by Irene. We didn’t think it was possible but Zooey Deschanel more firmly planted herself in our hearts with a flower in her hair and stunning Irene Neuwirth jewelry. Also on Team Irene was Kiera Sedgwick–does this woman ever age? She looked stunning and we loved the contrast in color of her dress and earrings.

Another designer who got a lot of love on the red carpet was Lorraine Schwartz. Amy Adams looked retro fabulous in her plunging gown and we love that she paired it with a long, lariat-like necklace from Lorraine. While we admit we weren’t a fan of her dress, Zoe Saldana is every jewelry designer’s dream, speaking at length about the fabulous, one-of-a-kind 10 carat gray diamond ring Lorraine created for her especially for the evening. And of course, Sofia Vergara spiced up the red carpet in her usual fashion with a huge bib necklace by Lorraine.

Naomi paired her sleek metallic dress with a bold necklace from Bulgari and their classic Serpenti bracelet, while Cate Blanchett’s romantic black lace gown looked perfect with her dramatic, diamond Chopard earrings.

We all watched as one of Jennifer Lawrence’s many diamond bracelets fell off her wrist while being interviewed by Ryan Seacrest, and a collective gasp shot out over Twitter. New York Time’s Edward Barsamian tweeted, “Scariest moment for a jewelry editor to see – Jennifer Lawrence’s bracelet falling off!” While her dress received a tepid reaction, J Law’s arm party and dangling earrings, designed by Neil Lane, were collectively praised!
