With Mother’s Day around the corner, we thought it would be fun to catch up with the amazing, mother-daughter design team behind Phillips House, Lisa Phillips Frankel and Danielle Frankel. As it turns out, these ladies not only work seamlessly together on the creation of their feminine, wearable and ever-expanding collection of jewelry, they also get inspired together throughout their hometown of Miami, Florida! Join us as these savvy and stylish ladies give us a tour of their stomping grounds!
The family has been going to their beach club in Fisher Island since Danielle was a little girl. It is secluded and represents pure relaxation in a beautiful setting. It’s also a family oriented place where time seems to slow down and where it’s not about the latest fashion or technology. It gives a great sense of perspective considering it is the same sand and ocean that people have been enjoying for hundreds of years. The natural elements are beautiful and the designers like to carry that natural beauty in their work.
Their favorite time to go to the Lincoln Road Antique Fair is first thing in the morning, when it’s not crowded and they can view each booth thoroughly. This location carries everything from interesting pieces of furniture and estate jewelry to cool shoe clips and belt buckles. It’s the type of location that’s fun and unique and occurs every second Sunday year-round, except for the summer. The Phillips House Wildflower collection was vaguely inspired from the antique fair, not because of the specific designs, but because of the feeling and the attitude of the place. They wanted people to have the same feeling that they would get if they were shopping for a vintage brooch. The booths here are very specific and specialized. For example, there is one booth that has a thousand cufflinks of various designs – some architectural, some feminine, and another booth that carries all old paper such as magazine cut outs and old advertisements.
For a higher-end shopping experience, the ladies love The Webster. Its highly curated selection of high end designer clothes make it feel as if a stylist has come in and hand-picked the best pieces. When they need something to wear for an event, this is the first place they go. The buyer for the shop has similar tastes to Lisa and Danielle, so it’s almost as everything had been selected just for them!
The dynamic duo also enjoys shopping at the shops at Bal Harbour. The beautiful ponds with fish and turtles, lush greenery and a fantastic, family style Italian restaurant with a warm and welcoming staff have made this a family destination for years!
One of the perks of living in Miami is being able to enjoy the outdoors. Kyaking in and around the Mangroves–protected trees in Florida that also protect the shoreline–is a great way to check out from the stresses of work life. It also allows the designers to appreciate the amazing plays on natural color and light.
The Room in South Beach is a tiny bar/lounge that serves beer and wine. It also served as the first-date-spot Danielle went with her now husband! It only seats around 10 people but it’s been around forever, and it’s a great place to unwind.
The Mandolin is an intimate Greek restaurant with great food, amazing aesthetics, and a fabulous outdoor seating area. The ladies love coming here either with friends, or on date nights!
With all of the food, fashion and nature that surrounds them, it’s no wonder that Lisa and Danielle appear to be having so much fun! Thank you ladies for sharing with us and Happy Mother’s Day!
