Made in New York–Designer Alex Woo

Mentored by her father, a master bench jeweler, Alex Woo began designing her eponymous line of jewelry ten years ago, and has since earned much acclaim, multiple awards, and a long roster of devoted fans, among them many celebrities, fashion editors, fashion bloggers and celebrity stylists. A born and raised New Yorker, Alex shares with us some of the places and things from her home town that continually inspire her sleekly sophisticated line of jewelry.

“I love to bring my son to Central Park, there’s really no other park like it in the world. There are so many great spots that are my favorites; the Bethesda Fountain, the bridge, and the Boathouse for brunch.”

The Highline is spectacular, it gives you such a fresh perspective of the city. I even did a photo shoot there!”

The Plaza Hotel Food Hall is the best ‘food court’ I’ve ever been to!”

Rockefeller Center is right across from my office and is an endless source of people-watching and inspiration!”

“We launched our new logo this year, and it was really important to me to incorporate ‘Made in New York’ in the design. Our new logo’s script is energetic and lighthearted, yet grounded by a descriptor that visually and conceptually provides a sense of place. What’s even more exciting about the logo is that the font that we used for ‘Made in New York’ is called Gotham, which is an American-designed font that has been used everywhere from Obama’s campaign to the World Trade center in New York City.”
