Atelier Munsteiner, comprised of Bernd, Tom and Jutta Munsteiner, will be showcasing their newest gem artistry at SOFA in Chicago this weekend.
SOFA is billed as "The World's Foremost Fairs of Contemporary Decorative Arts & Design" which takes place at Festival Hall, Navy Pier in Chicago from Nov. 5-7, 2010. The event features 80 art galleries and dealers from 10 countries.
Atelier Munsteiner will be showing with the Aaron Faber Gallery of New York City and they have work in the Oliver & Espig booth, as well.
Shown here is Tom Munsteiner's Imagination
The workpieces of Tom's series "Imagination" have a polished, globular surface in the form of a spherical cap on two matt-cut sides, which make up the reflecting body. Their acute angle is refracted by a richly varied sequence of rhythmically opposed surfaces – referred to as a “Zip-Zip cut”.
The prism-like structure of the crystal body highlights the indentations on the rear as a crystalline fault line covering the stone lengthways in the centre like a virtual projection, which captivates the eye of the viewer and puts it under its spell, thereby turning the inside of the crystal into a private projective space for one’s fantasy.
